This week in literacy, we will…

  • Learn that the vowel combination ue and ew make the /oo/ sound, as in true and crew

  • Learn that homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings

  • Read a book titled, The Cactus Hotel, by Abbey Grace Moore. We will read words with consonant clusters and understand new vocabulary from context. We will also identify the author's purpose for writing the book.

  • Respond to reading in our Reader's Notebooks

  • Read a poem titled, How Much Dew?

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Lessons

In Writing this week, we will… 

  • Continue our Narrative Writing Unit

  • Edit our work to include important components 

  • Investigate what makes Realistic Fiction realistic

  • Focus on creating and including small realistic details

  • Create an Elephant & Piggie comic strip for E Day in the ABC countdown


In math this week, we will… 

  • Take MAP testing 

  • Tell time to the hour and half-hour on an analog clock

  • Understand how long a second, minute, and hour are

  • Compare a second, minute, and hour

  • Learn how to play an hour or bust



In Science this week, we will finish our unit on Nutrition.  We will…

  • Learn about sugar and how much sugar is in different foods and drinks

  • Create a healthy recipe and make a class recipe book

  • Make observations about our first grade raised garden and take a look at all of the healthy foods that are beginning to grow!
