This week in literacy, we will…

  • Learn that a noun names a person, place, thing, or idea.

  • Learn that proper nouns name specific people, places, and things. Proper nouns are always capitalized

  • Learn that the vowel combination -igh has the long i sound, as in high and night

  • Read a book titled, Animal Surprises, by Nicole Walker. We will notice and talk about what is important in the text and use nonfiction text features to gain more information. We will also read words with long vowel sounds with silent e, and use context to read and understand unfamiliar words. Finally, we will work on fluent reading by using punctuation marks to read with appropriate intonation and pausing. 

  • Identify the main idea and supporting details from Animal Surprises during Community Writing time.

  • Read a poem titled, I'd Like to Be a Lighthouse. We will identify and read words with the -igh vowel combination. 

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons

In Writing this week, we will… 

  • Continue our Narrative Writing Unit

  • Discuss Book Series and think of ways to make our own series using the characters we have already created 

  • Create introductions that grab the reader's attention and introduce our main characters

  • Include dialogue in our books to help our characters come to life

  • Revise our work 


In math this week, we will… 

  •  Solve addition story problems with sums to 20 involving situations of adding to and putting together, with unknowns in all positions

  • Solve story problems involving addition of 3 whole numbers whose sums is less than or equal to 20

  • Apply the commutative and associative properties of addition to add

  • Use strategies to add with sums to 20

  • Demonstrate an understanding that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps

  • Play the Path Game

  • Take unit 7 Assessment



In Science this week, we will begin a new unit on Nutrition.  We will…

  • Learn about the importance of choosing healthy food

  • Learn how healthy food nourishes our bodies and helps us grow strong and healthy

  • Learn about the five different food groups

  • Create pretend meals and snacks using items from each of the food groups

May 14 - Interesting Fact day, write down and bring in an interesting fact!
