This week in literacy, we will…

  • Learn the letter-sound correspondence for the r-controlled vowels ar, or, ir, ur and er

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Lessons

  • Read a book titled, The Donkey and the Farmer, by Marta Magellan. While reading, we will infer the characters intentions, motivation, and perspective. We will notice words that add action or emotion (shouted, crash) and identify words with r-controlled vowels in the text

  • Read a poem titled, Little Bird. While reading, we will identify are read words with r-controlled vowels, identify the meaning of quotation marks and make our voices reflect dialogue

In Writing this week, we will… 

  • Continue our Poetry Unit

  • Add on to our “Poet-tree” by learning about several new poem types/styles. Specifically this week, we will explore I-Wish poems, Shape poems, Acrostic poems, and Haikus


In math this week, we will… 

  • Solve addition story problems with sums to 20 involving situations of adding to and putting together, with unknowns in all positions

  • Use strategies to add with sums to 20

  • Solve for the unknown in an addition equation involving 3 whole numbers

  • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them

  • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others

  • Solve many different kinds of words problems

  • Take Unit 3 Test


In Social Studies this week, we will continue our Our Country unit.  We will…

  • Continue learning about important US symbols including the Lincoln Memorial, bald eagles, and the Statue of Liberty

  • Learn about the United States Constitution
