This week in literacy, we will…

  • Learn the letter-sound correspondences for the long vowel teams   ie and oe, where the two vowels make the long vowel sound. 

  • Read a book titled Ripples in the Sea by Miriam Glassman. While reading, we will make connections between text, illustrations and print features. We will also understand the meaning of words that represent sounds (swoosh, smack) and recognize words with beginning consonant blends. 

  • Read a poem titled  Hearts

  • Read books about the 100th Day of School, including  Jake’s 100th Day of School by Lester Laminack, I’ll Teach My Dog 100 Words by Michael Frith, Chicka Chicka, 1,2,3 by Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson, and One Hundred Days (Plus 1) by Margaret McNamara

  • Participate in Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lessons


In Writing this week, we will…

  • Choose a topic that interests us and that we know a lot about

  • Plan our ideas in a way that is organized and informative

  • Include details and facts about our topic within our writing

  • Prepare an introduction and conclusion 

  • Edit and Revise our writing


In math this week, we will… 

  • Identify, name, describe, compare three-dimensional shapes including cubes, rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between the defining and non-defining attributes of a three-dimensional shapes

  •  Build a three-dimensional shape with specific defining attributes

  •  Create a composite shape by composing three-dimensional shapes and compare and new shape using composite three-dimensional shapes

  • Look for and make use of structure

  • Take a Shape Check in 



This week during our Social Studies we will…

  • Learn about the winter olympics events and olympians!
